Medallion Memorial Jan Šrubař

It briefly presents the life of Jan Šrubař, in whose honor a cross-country skiing race is held every year in Pustevny in the Beskydy Mountains – the Jan Šrubař Memorial.

Jan Šrubař * 17.12. 1885 – † 7.2. 1943 – Father of seven children, soldier, member of the Sokol Union, patriot, sportsman in body and spirit, promoter of skiing, WWII resistance fighter, and hero who was tortured to death by the Nazis. A man with a capital M. A man who died for freedom. A man who would not budge till the bitter end.

The Jan Šrubař Memorial is one of the oldest ski races in Czechia and Slovakia. The first annual memorial was held in 1949.
